( Mark 4:1-34 ) [35] As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.”   [36] So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed).  [37] But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water.  [38] Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?”   [39] When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves,  “Silence! Be still!”   Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm.  [40] Then he asked them,  “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”  [41] The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him!” Mark 4:35-41 * The steering gear of a ship, a position of leadership or control .

[3] And He spoke many things to them in parables, saying, “Behold, the sower went out to sow; [4] and as he sowed, some seeds fell beside the road , and the birds came and ate them up. [5] Others fell on the rocky places , where they did not have much soil; and immediately they sprang up, because they had no depth of soil. [6] But when the sun had risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. [7] Others fell among the thorns , and the thorns came up and choked them out. [8] And others fell on the good soil and *yielded a crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty. [9] He who has ears, let him hear.” [18]  “Hear then the parable of the sower. [19] When anyone HEARS the WORD of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is the one on whom seed was sown beside the road.
